RFID Scanners
An RFID scanner, or RFID reader, uses radio waves to read and write RFID tags without line of sight, so many tagged items can be read at once. It is used for inventory counts, asset tracking, retail stock management and warehouse receipt and dispatch.
A' Niche Solutions supplies Zebra RFID readers, including handheld RFID readers, an RFID sled that attaches to a mobile computer, fixed RFID readers and RFID antennas for portals and dock doors. We integrate RFID data with SAP HANA, Oracle and custom ERP systems.

Handheld or fixed
Handheld readers suit stock counts and finding assets. Fixed readers with antennas read tags automatically as goods pass through doors, dock gates or conveyors.
Read range and frequency
UHF RFID reads tags from a few metres away and suits inventory and logistics. Read range also depends on the tag, antenna and the material the tag is fixed to.
Tags and surfaces
Metal and liquids interfere with RFID signals. Plan tags suited to your items, such as on-metal tags for IT assets and machinery, before selecting readers.
Integration with software
RFID readers only capture tag data. Plan how reads flow into your inventory or ERP system, including filtering duplicate reads and mapping tags to items.
What is the difference between RFID and barcode scanning?
A barcode scanner reads one printed code at a time and needs a clear line of sight. An RFID reader uses radio waves, reads tags without seeing them and can read many tags in one pass, which makes stock counts much faster.
What is a fixed RFID reader?
A fixed RFID reader is mounted at a location such as a dock door, portal or conveyor and connected to antennas. It reads tagged items automatically as they pass, recording movement without anyone scanning manually.
Can RFID tags be read on metal items?
Standard RFID tags perform poorly on metal. Special on-metal tags are designed for metal surfaces such as IT equipment, tools and machinery. They should be tested with the reader before rollout.
